Pupils Injured During Gang Shootout

5 pupils of Juhudi Academy in Nairobi were on Tuesday injured after they were caught in a crossfire between rival gangs of suspected robbers.

The students were rushed to hospital with bullet wounds, two shot on their arms, one on the thigh and two on their legs.

The shootout occurred at The Awendo Road in Dandora Phase Four as the pupils aged between 5 and 10 years were leaving school.

Residents claim that the incident lasted for over 20 minutes. The shootout is believed to have started when the gangs got into an argument over the sharing of loot from a previous robbery.

One of the suspected robbers identified as Martin Njogu was shot dead. Police arrived at the scene to collect the body and bullets left behind by the robbers.

According to The Nation the incident comes only a few days after a 17-year-old Form Three student at Straight Secondary School in Kibera was shot dead during a robbery in the slums.

Police have launched a manhunt for the robbers.
