Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Sunday affirmed that ODM leader Raila Odinga is the best-suited candidate to be the CORD flagbearer in the upcoming General Election.
Speaking during the commemoration of the late Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang, Joho announced that Odinga was more popular than CORD co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula thus he deserves the ticket.
"Who among the Cord principals has the most supporters if not Raila Odinga?" Joho posed.
The Mombasa Governor urged the two principals to give the former Prime Minister an opportunity since he was the only one capable of unseating President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Governor, popularly known as 001, divulged that he was ready to defend Odinga from attacks especially from the Jubilee administration.
"Had Otieno Kajwang been alive today he would not have given room to the likes of Ruto and Duale to play around with our party leader Raila Odinga," Joho affirmed.
Odinga, who was also present, urged party members to defend ODM like the late Kajwang who was ready to defend the party at all costs.
"Kajwang' was one of the greatest soldiers I had around. He was always there to energise our team for a noble cause.
"Kajwang's tireless fight for the party made him receive the Platinum award hence all should embrace that spirit," the former Prime Minister challenged his party members.
Odinga will be expected to battle it out with Kalonzo and Wetangula for the CORD presidential ticket, although the Orange Party has maintained that he (Odinga) would be in the ballot box.
