Raila Odinga Asks President Uhuru Kenyatta to Respect Governors If He Wants To Be Respected

Opposition Chief Raila Odinga on Friday warned President Uhuru Kenyatta to respect governors elected by Kenyans if he wants to be respected.

Addressing a rally organised by the National Super Alliance in Mathare, Nairobi, Odinga faulted President Kenyatta for his recent outbursts in Turkana and Mombasa, noting that it was wrong for the President to issue orders barring Governor Hassan Joho from attending a function in his own county.

He also revealed that the Standard Gauge Railway project was a brainchild of the coalition government between former President Mwai Kibaki and him, not Kenyatta’s.

Odinga was also quick to allay fears that NASA was in disarray by saying they were united and it was only normal for all the co-principals to express interest in the Presidency.

Several reports have suggested that NASA may have problems fielding a candidate, but the former Prime Minister insisted his house was in order and would democratically elect the party’s flagbearer.

He said they were ready for the August showdown and his sentiments were echoed by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.

Wetangula saluted the gestures made by residents of Kisii County when they heckled the President and condemned Kenyatta’s claims that Odinga instigated the post-election violence.

He also called upon the National Cohesion and Integration Commission chairman Francis Ole Kaparo to look into the sentiments made by the President as they could be categorised as hate-speech.
