Raila 'Predicted' the Fall of Uhuru's PSCU Team

Fresh details have emerged indicating that CORD leader Raila Odinga might have 'predicted' the downfall of the just disbanded Presidential Strategic Communication Unit (PSCU).

In 2014, the Opposition leader called for the sacking of President Uhuru Kenyatta's communication team on grounds that it angered Kenyans in its attempt to speak for the Head of State.

He termed the PSCU team a propaganda tool that thrived on misinformation and stated that Kenyans could not continue to fund it.

“This PSCU with its infantile, ill-informed, unprofessional attempts to speak for the Presidency have served only to anger, confuse, divide and become the laughing stock of Kenyans.

“Kenyans cannot continue funding what appears to be a party propaganda unit that thrives on misinformation and is determined to continue with an unending campaign using taxpayer's money,” Raila noted.

During a press conference on December 1, 2014, at the Orange House, ODM leaders demanded the immediate shutdown of the unit, accusing it of "unprofessionalism" and "perpetual misinformation" to the public.

Nearly two years later, President Kenyatta sent home all PSCU directors only retaining State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu.

Reports indicated the Head of State was concerned about the leaking of uncertified information to the public as well as unstructured communication by the team, the same weaknesses Mr Odinga noted.

The affected PSCU directors include Head of Public Communications Munyori Buku, Chief of Messaging at the Presidency Eric Ng’eno, Branding and Events Head James Kinyua, and Digital and Diaspora Communications Manager Dennis Itumbi.
