Runyenjes MP Cecily Mbarire Faces Arrest

An Embu court has issued an arrest warrant against Runyenjes Member of Parliament Cecily Mbarire and Embu County Assembly Speaker Kariuki Mate after the two failed to honour court summons they were served with last week.

The summons required them to answer to charges of obstruction of justice where they are accused of hindering  Embu West OCPD Francis Sang from carrying out his duties.

Police allege that the two impeded the OCPD and other law enforcement officers from escorting a returning officer, Kenneth Kamenchu, from Embu level five hospital to Kangaru tallying centre where he was required to announce Jubilee Party nomination results.

Mr Kamenchu had earlier suffered assault from a group of rowdy youth and was rushed to the hospital with head and hand injuries.

Police investigations found the two leaders responsible for the attack and the prosecuting lawyer told the court they would be charged with the offence when they appear in court.

They two were mandated to appear in person on May 4 to face charges.

Ms Mbarire lost her bid for the Embu governor seat to incumbent Martin Wambora.
