Ruto Condemned Over 'Careless' Nairobi Governorship Remarks

Deputy President William Ruto has sparked a heated debate after making a firm declaration regarding the Nairobi gubernatorial seat during a church service.

Addressing a congregation during the service, Ruto vowed that the Jubilee coalition had to capture the seat in the coming 2017 elections using whichever means possible.

The Deputy President declared that the ruling coalition would not stand to win the Presidential position and fail to capture the Nairobi seat.

“This time round, liwe liwalo, juu chini, kushoto kulia, mbele na nyuma, lazima tupate hii kura ya Governor ya Nairobi..(This time round we must win the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat through all methods that we can possibly use),” declared Ruto.

Ruto went ahead to state that it would not be possible for the coalition to be running the National government and allow Nairobi County to be led by an Opposition Governor.

His remarks have elicited reactions with some terming them as 'careless' claims which might 'precipitate an environment of chaos'.

The DP's remarks come as the seat continues to attract interest from various individuals who have indicated that they would be going head-to-head with the incumbent, Evans Kidero.

Former Devolution Minister Anne Waiguru recently stated that she had been consulting with other leaders before deciding to go for the seat, with political analyst Miguna Miguna also declaring his interest.
