Senate Descends On Waiguru's Ministry

Senators have resolved to form a special committee to investigate how Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru's Ministry spent the Sh15 Billion allocated to the internally displaced persons.

Last week members of the senate dismissed a statement presented to them on the state of the remaining IDPs terming it inadequate.

The legislators claimed that the ministry had given them shallow details on how the money was distributed among the 600,000 IDPs . They added that the payment was done selectively with some displaced persons getting Sh400,000 each together with a piece of land while others received Sh400,000 and another group was only given Sh10,000.

Minority Leader Moses Wetang’ula said that formation of a special committee comprising of members from Jubilee and CORD would be essential to investigate the IDPs' settlement issue.

“This is a matter of national interest. Sh15 billion has been sunk into the IDP scam,” he said.

Senate would pick members for the committee next week once the motion by Vihiga Senator George Khaniri is passed.

Devolution CS has been under pressure to step aside in order to allow for investigations into the Sh791 million scam at the National Youth Service.

An impeachment motion against Waiguru prepared by Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter is underway though it suffered a set back after some members from the Jubilee coalition declined to support the motion.

Majority leader Aden Duale claimed that the CS was a whistler blower in the graft at the NYS.
