Senior County Officials in Wheelbarrow Saga Arrested

Anti-graft officers have arrested three Bungoma County government officials over wheelbarrows purchased at an inflated cost of Sh109,000 each.

The three among them Head of Procurement Jeremiah Muchembi, Chief of Finance Oscar Ojwang' and suspended Tourism executive Evans Fwamba were arrested on Thursday in an early morning raid on their houses.

The detectives from the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) are reported to have stormed their homes in search of evidence tying the three to the supposed graft.

EACC officers are said to have also raided Governor Ken Lusaka's office to find evidence that would prove various corruption allegations.

The incident follows a petition presented by Bungoma youth to the EACC, that requested the County Government be probed for corruption.

Lusaka defended the Sh1.09 Million spent on the 10 wheelbarrows, saying they were special, stainless equipment that reduced the risk of cancer since they were to be used in the food industry.
