The Kirinyaga County Government is the latest County to be put on the spot over what is termed as outrageous spending, after it allegedly spent a whopping Sh1.2 Million on a Facebook account.
The County Government is said to have hired a consultant to open and run a Facebook account on behalf of the Governor at such a tidy sum.
County Executive for Finance , Murimi Murage, explained that the County Government had contracted services of managing social media for the county, as per the regulations provided in the Public Procurement Act.
In Nyamira, the County Government is on the receiving end for spending Sh7.6 Million on the construction of a hospital gate.
Residents have criticized the County's leadership for going ahead to spend the amount, even as the hospital runs short of medical equipment and drugs.
In a near similar situation, Bungoma County was this week turned into a butt of a joke after it procured what are said to be the ‘most expensive wheelbarrows ever’.
The Bungoma County Government acquired 10 wheelbarrows at a cost of Sh109,000 each, amounting to Sh1.09 Million.

In his defence, Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka claimed the wheelbarrows were of a unique make, since they were made of stainless aluminium material.
Bomet County was also accused of spending Sh21 Million on an undeserved fire engine. The County Government was ridiculed by Kenyans with pictures of the extinguisher making rounds on facebook and twitter.

These are a few highlights in what is said to be ‘inappropriate spending’ by the County Governments, pointing to how taxpayers' funds are spent on low priority projects.
