Student In Online Campaign Succumbs To Cancer

Ezra Momanyi, the 23 year old University of Nairobi student, who has been the subject of an online campaign aimed at raising money for treatment of cancer, succumbed to the disease this morning.

An online campaign under the hash tag #Give4Ezra had been formed by Kenyans on social media to raise One Million shillings for his treatment. The fundraiser was to be held today.

The 23 year old, who was an orphan, was diagnosed with his first case of cancer called Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma in early 2014 when he was in his second year of studies.

He underwent sessions of radiotherapy and chemotherapy at Kenyatta National Hospital and the cancer appeared to regress.

However in May 2015, he was diagnosed with another growth at the base of his left eye. Another tumour later developed in his brain.

Tests done in June 2015 confirmed he had developed Lymphoma; an aggressive form of cancer that attacks cells of the immune system.

He was scheduled for another round of chemotherapy later after a wound that had developed on his face due to the previous tumour had healed. He was discharged to undergo palliative care at home.

However, his condition deteroriated this August prompting the online campaign from friends and family to take him for specialised treatment.

He developed breathing complications this morning at home and was rushed to KNH where he was confirmed dead at 1 am.
