Suspected Al-Shabaab Militants Kill Mandera Chief

The Mandera County chief kidnapped early Thursday, by suspected Al-Shabaab militants has been killed.

The senior chief who is said to have been singled out from a passenger vehicle while the other passengers were set free was killed in cold blood, hours later after the gunmen took him hostage.

The chief and other passengers were traveling from Elwak to Mandera town when the heavily armed men stopped the bus robbed the passengers of money and valuables then took the chief allowing passengers to continue with the journey.

According to a report on the Daily Nation a group of elders followed the gunmen and when they caught up with them inside Somalia, the terrorists demanded a Sh4 million ransom.

However, the terrorists shot the chief a few minutes after 6 pm while negotiations on the ransom were still going on.
