Teacher Accused of Sexually Molesting 6 Students Denied Bail

The high school teacher who made headlines over the weekend after allegations of his having molested students emerged, has been denied bail.

The Kiswahili teacher Paul Gicheru, was arraigned in court today, Tuesday after he was arrested following demonstrations by students from the school in Nakuru county- Njoro Girls High School on Sunday.

The girls said that the teacher had made a habit of calling students to his office and forcing them to take snack or alcohol as he inappropriately touched them.

The demonstrations led to the closing of the school as the students were sent home.

Today in court, Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo gave a directive that the suspect remains in custody until all the students scheduled to testify have done so.

Gicheru denied the allegations leveled against him saying they were the fabrications of people who were out to tarnish his name.

According to The Nation, Chief Magistrate Doreen Mulekyo told the court that the suspect had taken to warning the girls against testifying against him, threatening dire consequences.

The suspect's lawyer however dismissed the allegations.

The case is set to be heard on a priority basis starting July 6.
