Two General Service Unit (GSU) Missing After Allegedly Being Captured by Pokot Bandits

Two General Service Unit (GSU) officers are feared dead after they were allegedly captured by Pokot bandits near Laikipia Nature Conservancy.

According to police sources, the two GSU officers were taken hostage during the raid by the bandits who had shot dead an AP officer at Matweku police post.

The sources added that when fellow AP officers tried to rescue their colleagues at Matweku, they were ambushed and one of them seriously injured.

The reports indicated that another police officer also died from injuries inflicted during another shootout with the Pokot bandits at Ol Maisor Ranch that same day.

The attack comes weeks after the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers were deployed to Laikipia Nature Conservancy after Pokot bandits raided Mukutan Retreat and torched property.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had declared that the deployment of the contingents of KDF, GSU and police officers was to further assist in disarmament and surrender of illegally held arms.

A position lauded by the British government who urged Kenya to quell escalating violence in Laikipia county after British rancher Tristan Voorspuy was shot dead by suspected invading herders.
