Uhuru Orders Deployment of KDF in North Rift Region

President Uhuru Kenyatta has ordered for deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in the volatile North Rift region to restore security.

Kenyatta on Friday directed that military action be applied in Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Laikipia and West Pokot counties to flush out bandits who have been launching surprise attacks leading to deaths of dozens.

Speaking during a pass out parade at the Administration Police Training College in Embakasi, Kenyatta stated that those who have declined to hand in their firearms were enemies of the state and would be dealt with accordingly.

“Today we held a session as the National Security Council and agreed to authorize the Kenya Defence Forces to immediately get in and lend support to the National Police in terms of manpower and equipment so as to restore security and deal with those who continue to threaten the lives of Kenyans," announced the Head of State.

The President further assured that the Government was ready to guarantee security to its citizens as well as protection of their property.

“Assuring citizens of safety and order is the pre-eminent duty of any nation.  It is a foundational function – one which almost every other function of the Government and of society depends on," he stated.

The soldiers will now help police officers who have been participating a disarmament operation in the area.
