Uhuru Publicly Agrees with Raila During Nderitu Gachagua's Burial

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday publicly announced that for the first time in a long while, he was on the same page with CORD leader Raila Odinga.

While delivering his speech at the burial of former Nyeri Governor Nderitu Gachagua in Mathira Constituency, President Kenyatta noted that he was in agreement with Odinga's sentiments that MCAs must not try to disrupt a Governor's agenda for the County.

The Head of State firmly stated that the main work of the ward representatives was to provide oversight and not hinder development plans of the County boss.

He insisted that if the Governor was not involved in any dubious dealings, then the MCAs ought to support the County Government despite any personal issues they may have had with the leader.

"Hata kama unaweza kuwa na maoni tofauti ngonja kwanza miaka mitano iishe ndio sasa uweze kurudi ufanye yako. Lakini patia huyu mwingine nafasi aweze kutimiza ahadi zake. (Even if you have a different opinion wait until the Governor's term is over then you contest and implement your own agendas. But for the moment give the Governor in office an opportunity to fulfil his promises to the people).

"But make sure he is not stealing as that is your job to ensure that there is no stealing of those resources - that is what oversight is. Oversight is not changing the program or the agenda of the elective Governor. He is the one who has the mandate,"[Sic] Kenyatta emphasised.

Before Kenyatta, Mr Odinga lauded Governor Gachagua for not bowing to the pressure from his MCAs who had severally tried to impeach him.

The former Prime Minister highlighted that he was impressed when Gachagua stood his ground to ensure that devolution was not abused by leaders in the county.

As a result of this rare agreement, Mr Kenyatta praised the deceased leader for being able to bring him and the ODM chief to be of the same mind noting that it was a 'historic moment'.

"Kwa hivyo Gachagua for the first time in a long time umesababisha nikubaliane na Raila. Ni pongezi kwako. Ni siku ya kihistoria kweli(Therefore Gachagua for the first time in a long while you have made it possible for me and Raila to agree. Congratulations. This is truly a historic day)," President Kenyatta noted.
