Uhuru Welcomes Obama to Kenya After Leaving Office

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday made a special request to the 44th President of US, Barack Obama, as he handed over power to his successor Donald Trump.

In a press statement, Mr Kenyatta congratulated Obama for the wonderful work he had done during his two terms in office and went on to invite him to Kenya.

"It is with pleasure that, on my own behalf, my Government and the people of Kenya, I convey to Your Excellency warm congratulations on your successful completion of your two terms in office as President of the United States of America. I would like to extend an invitation to you to visit Kenya at your earliest convenience," he said.

President Kenyatta told Obama that his visit would allow Kenya and the rest of Africa engage him in various issues affecting the region.

"This visit will accord us an opportunity to continue engaging on a wide range of issues at national, regional and international levels on the stability, development and prosperity of the East African region and other regions of the world," Kenyatta mentioned.

The Head of State reminded Obama of his earlier promise to Kenya noting: "Your Excellency, your visit to Kenya in 2015 during the 6th Global Entrepreneurship Summit marked the highest point of the bilateral relations between our two countries. The people of Kenya still cherish your visit, being the first by the United States of America President, and still remember your assurance to work with the continent after your Presidency."

Kenyatta concluded by wishing Obama good health and prosperity as he stepped away from the powerful office.

"While reiterating my congratulations, Mr. President, accept my best wishes for your good health and assurances of my best considerations," Kenyatta stated.
