University of Eldoret Deals Major Blow to Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melly

Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melly will continue battling a criminal case involving the University of Eldoret (UoE) after the varsity failed to send a representative to confirm an out of court settlement, for the charges against him to be dropped.

Mr Melly, through his lawyer Ochang Ajigo, told a Nakuru Court that he had reached an agreement with the University to settle the matter out of court.

The prosecution, however, told the court that they had not received communication from the University to that effect.

"The University has not sent any representative to confirm to the court of the agreement and so we are willing to prosecute the case," the prosecuting lawyer noted.

Senator Melly together with Wesley Kogo, a student leader, and politician Jonathan Bii were accused of leading violent protests in a bid to oust UoE's Vice Chancellor Prof. Teresia Akenga.

They all denied the charges.

Principal Magistrate Joe Omido adjourned the matter to August 23 after the General Election.
