The family of a Kenyan man who allegedly raped and sodomised a 7-year-old girl in the US, is begging for help to raise Sh51 Million bond and Sh2.5 Million legal fees.
The father of the accused, took to the Kikuyu Diaspora TV (KDTV) station, to urge Kenyans to help them raise the amount to cater for a bond of the five offences levelled against him burglary, child abuse, sodomy and attempted rape.
Newton Githiri, 22, allegedly scaled the fence of a building in Alabama where he entered the room of the young girl and raped her, in August.
According to the father, Johnson Njuguna, the son was innocent since he was raised in a religious family and only made a mistake.
“Newton was drunk and mistakenly went to the wrong apartment as they are on the same block. He thought he was in our house and asked to be let in to sleep,” he said.
According to the police, Mr Githiri was caught in the act and was physically restrained by the father of the girl while the mother alerted the police.
“This young girl immediately told her parents what had occurred. Our officers responded to what they believed was a burglary in progress but it turns out it was something much worse," he said.
Mr Githiri's parents however, disputed the allegations saying medical tests found no evidence proving the child was molested.
“We hope fellow Kenyans across the globe will help us raise the money needed to get a good lawyer then we can start the fight to release our son,” said the mother of the accused.
The parents said they hoped further probing would prove that their son was innocent.
