VIDEO: Uhuru Tells Off Raila In-front of Guests

President Uhuru Kenyatta criticized CORD leader Raila Odinga during a meeting they had both attended.

Kenyatta told off the former Prime Minister for faulting the recently signed deals between Kenya and Uganda.

The Head of State said it was improper for Odinga to claim that the trade pact would flood the Kenyan market with cheap sugar.

"I say that with due respect and humility to my elder brother. We cant criticise one another for the sake of criticising each other," he said.

Kenyatta further accused Odinga of holding back the country.

"If you want to accuse me of something do it, but correct me where am going wrong, not taking me back, " the President said.

Speaking today during the Eastern Africa Region Pan African Congress at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Kenyatta said it was better to import sugar from Uganda than Brazil and other countries.

He further noted that Kenyan farmers also stand to benefit as Kenya would export beef besides other products to Uganda.

However, while addressing the same conference after Kenyatta left, Odinga maintained his stand on the sugar agreement –that cane farmers would suffer losses from the deal.

"I'm not opposed to intra-Africa trade. I will not be against Kenya trading with Uganda. All we want is protection for Kenyan cane farmers," he said.

He said there were no mechanisms in place to ensure the provision is not abused to dump cheap sugar imports from other countries, the Nation reports.

Kenya and Uganda made bilateral agreements that will see Kenya import goods from Uganda, among them sugar, as well as export to the Ugandan market products such as milk, meat etc.

The deal has has sparked a political storm, with the opposition casting doubt on the agreements being in public interest.
