VIDEO: Waiguru Resigns

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru resigned on Saturday citing doctor's advice to take some time off.

Addressing the Press at the her Harambee House office, Waiguru said that she had asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to allow her leave office.

Waiguru revealed that she tendered her resignation to the President adding that the corruption attacks were affecting her family.

"The fight against corruption eventually mutated into the fight against Anne Waiguru...the whole experience has caused a lot pain to me, personally and to my family," she remarked.

She further said that her doctor had advised her to take on lighter duties due to the impact of the attacks on her health.

"Though the experience has had devastating effects on my health, it has not killed my spirit...I have been advised by my doctor to take time off to recover and to undertake much lighter duties for some time," she added.

The embattled CS has bowed to pressure from various quarters including the Opposition to leave office, after several graft cases were unearthed in her Ministry. The calls for Waiguru to resign were fueled by the loss of Sh791 Million reported at the National Youth Service.

Pressure continued to mount, after another report released by the Parliamentary Accounts Committe exposed extravagant purchases in her office.

Despite the scandals that supposedly happened under her watch, Waiguru had always maintained her innocence saying that she had no roles in the procurement process in her Ministry.

Recently President Kenyatta called upon anyone with incriminating evidence against her, to report to the Government for appropriate action to be taken. At a stop over in Eldoret during his tour of North Rift, Kenyatta told his audience that no one would dictate to him who to hire or fire.

His sentiments were seen as directed to Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter, who has adamantly been attempting to have the Devolution CS impeached.

President Kenyatta had been accused by the Opposition led by Raila Odinga, of protecting CS Waiguru while other Cabinet Secretaries mentioned in graft cases had been suspended.
