VIDEO: Weapons In Garissa University Attack Unveiled

Weapons that were used in carrying out killings in the Garissa University attack were Monday produced before a trial court for the first time as cases against five prime suspects continued.

Police officers investigating the cases produced four AK47 rifles, 23 magazines with 713 rounds of ammunition and safety jackets said to have been found on the slain attackers during the April 2 attack last year.

Appearing before the court, Geoffrey Busolo an officer who was involved in ending the siege, explained how together with his colleague they recovered the weapons from the attackers killed in the incident.

The officer identified two suspects standing in the dock, narrating that they were found at the scene of crime and could not explain their presence.

According to Busolo, Tanzanian national Charles Mberesero was found under a bed with two mobile phones, while his accomplice Osman Abdi, was found in one of the hostels taking photographs of the dead students.

The case has been ongoing since June 2015 when the five, Mohamed Ali Abikar, Hassan Edin Hassan, Sahal Diriye Hussein, Abdi and Mberesero were charged with conspiring to commit terror attacks and 148 counts of terrorism that led to the death of the same number of people in the bloody siege.

The prosecution is expected to produce 15 more witnesses to testify against the five, among them students who survived during the raid.
