Waiguru Leads in Jubilee Nominations for Kirinyaga Governor Race

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has taken an early lead in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race in the ongoing Jubilee nominations

According to provisional results from 313 polling stations, Waiguru has so far garnered 102,927 votes against his closest competitor, Kirinyaya central MP Joseph Gitari, who has 44,745.

Surprisingly, the incumbent governor Joseph Ndathi who is also seeking to clinch the coveted Jubilee ticket given its popularity in the County comes third with 19,078.

However, the tallying is still ongoing and the results could change.

The winner of the Jubilee ticket will contest against among others, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, in the August 8 General Election

On Monday, Waiguru bitterly complained over delays after the exercise was temporarily disrupted due to inadequate ballot papers for gubernatorial and Member of Parliament (MP) seat.

She lamented that the pertinent issues that they raised last week on Friday had not been addressed and the party had delivered fewer papers than the number of registered voters in the polling stations.

Waiguru had also vowed to boycott the primaries citing an alleged plan to rig her out.
