Waiguru's New Life After Leaving Government

Former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru has spoken on her new life after exiting the powerful Devolution and Planning Ministry, amid sustained pressure for her resignation over massive corruption in her docket. 

Ms Waiguru, who was spotted on Saturday shopping alongside her son, revealed that after leaving public service she had gotten the opportunity to lead a 'normal life'. 

“Since I left Government, I have been resting at home mostly, living a normal life and just reflecting on the year that has been,” she told The Standard on Sunday.

Having resigned from the Cabinet citing doctor's advice, Waiguru noted that her health had significantly improved. 

“Due to the rest and calm, my health has stabilised. It is not possible to achieve the previous state of health, but the doctor says I am now stable. I am taking time to also live a healthy lifestyle, watching my diet and exercising to keep fit,” said Waiguru. 

Asked whether she missed her previous life in the top government ranks, where she enjoyed trappings of power, she boldly stated: “To be absolutely honest, the conveniences are good, but do I miss them? No! The trappings that come with the office are insignificant when contrasted with the responsibilities that the office comes with and the sacrifice that one has to make of their private sphere".

Waiguru publicly announced her resignation on November 21, 2015, where she indicated that the corruption attacks were affecting her health and family, therefore needed to take some time off.
