A watchman who was arrested following the cruel murder of Pastor Pius Muiru's mother, Grace Wangari, has confessed to killing and burying the elderly woman.
The guard was caught in possession of a phone belonging to the deceased which he had used to transfer some Sh95 to his phone on Tuesday evening.
Ms Wangari, who was in her 70s, went missing on Monday.
On Wednesday, she was found murdered and buried in a shallow grave near the cowshed at her home in Murang'a County.
Also in custody is a daughter-in-law of the deceased who is said to have been living with her prior to her death.
Police discovered the spot where Mrs Mwangi was buried after being led to the scene by the guard and daughter-in-law who were the first suspects to be arrested.
Central regional police boss Larry Kieng' told a local daily that Mrs Mwangi may have been kidnapped and subsequently killed.
