Leaders from the KANU party have declared that they will support the CORD coalition in opposing the controversial amendments being proposed to the new Electoral laws.
Jubilee legislators are proposing the IEBC be allowed to use the manual voting system in parts of the country where the electronic system will fail, changes the Opposition has vehemently rejected.
Led by West-Pokot Senator Prof John Lunyang’apuo and former ICT Minister Samuel Poghisio, the leaders said that KANU (whose chairman is Baringo Senator Gideon Moi) will not accept any outdated system in the transmission of election results.
Mr Poghisio claimed that Jubilee had sensed defeat in the upcoming General Election and that's why the were trying to tamper with Election Laws to create loopholes to rig the polls.
“Election is something very critical. It is not a joke and we don’t want a cat and mouse game by bringing the manual process when BVR kits fail,” Poghisio stated.
The former Minister urged legislators in Jubilee not to be used by their political masters to advocate for changes that could come back to hurt Kenya during the 2017 polls.
“The MPs should be careful and mind about elections and there should be no doubt that elections will be rigged. No one should play with elections,” Poghisio affirmed.
Meanwhile, ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday warned that there will be no Elections in 2017 if any amendments are done to the Elections laws.
“There'll be no election in 2017 if Jubilee amends negotiated poll laws to re-introduce manual voting: the system is prone to abuse,” the former Prime Minister stated.
