Why Ambassador Mwakwere Quit ODM for Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Party

Details have emerged indicating that Ambassador Ali Chirau Mwakwere was forced to leave ODM after senior officials in the party declined to welcome his candidature for the Kwale Gubernatorial seat.

After a series of private meetings with ODM officials, some party members are said to have questioned his loyalty to Opposition leader Raila Odinga and why he joined them at the eleventh hour.

Kwale ODM vice-chairman Nicholas Zani said that they would not accept new candidates in the party who wanted to be given special treatment yet they had long term absentees in the Orange Party.

“We are six of us eyeing the gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket. Why should he think he is special to be given a direct ticket?” Mr Zani posed.

Msambweni ODM sub-county chair lady Fatuma Juma, echoed his sentiments warning that: “We cannot accept projects to come here and get the party tickets at the expense of people who have been with the party and built it to its current strength and popularity.”

On Thursday, Mwakwere surprised many after he announced that he would join Wiper despite flirting with ODM.

”I have joined Wiper Party because is the most suitable,” the ambassador told journalists after his declaration.

Mr Mwakwere fell out with ODM diehards in the county in 2013 after he ditched the party for Deputy President William Ruto's United Republican Party (URP).
