Why Tycoon Skipped Court Hearing after Killing Guard.

A former Director at Cooper Motor Corporation Group (CMC) and business tycoon failed to appear in court after causing the death of a security guard in Runda Estate, Nairobi.

Joel Kibe, through his lawyer Cliff Ombeta, claimed to be nursing injuries sustained from the accident hence could not appear in court on Wednesday.

"Kibe fractured two ribs and suffered some minor injuries. Doctors at Nairobi Hospital have asked him to take two to three days of bed rest," he explained.

The lawyer also stated that his client was diabetic and that his blood sugar level had risen.

The tycoon on Monday night rammed into a security check barrier after losing control of his car, killing a guard and injuring another.

According to an eye witness, Kibe swept away a one-foot radius bollard, brought down three smaller ones and knocked down a sentry box making it roll over the dead guard.

In a contoversial video clip captured during the incident and shared online, Mr Kibe, who is seemingly drunk, is heard saying that they were all hurt.

"Nimegonga barrier. Gari yangu imeumia, tumeumia sote (I have hit the barrier. My car is damaged, we are all hurt.)," Kibe said

It is reported that Mr Kibe was arrested and taken to the Gigiri police station where he was later released on a Sh70,000 police bond. He was to appear in court on Wednesday to answer to charges of causing death through dangerous driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving carelessly and causing injury.
