A 75-year-old woman at Free Area in Nakuru County was arrested on Thursday after it was discovered that she had been living with her dead husband's body for over a week.
Virginia Wanjiru, the widow to the deceased, claimed that her husband had died that morning despite obvious indication that he had been laying on the bed for more than a week.
“I got a call that Mama Njoroge had lost her husband but on rushing to the scene, I saw the man was stiff and his skin ripped off when the wife attempted to stretch his leg,” said one of the neighbours.
Residents claimed that the deceased had been sick for over two months and that his wife had neglected him during his period of ailment.
Wanjiru who was being questioned by area Chief and police officers, was supposedly sleeping in a different room from the husband's due to their sour relationship, casting doubt on whether she had a hand in her husband's death.
“We deduced that the body had stayed there for a while because it was already infested by flies,” said the area Chief.
Ms Wanjiru was apprehended and taken to Mwariki Police Station awaiting further interrogation.
