The National Police Service was on Friday appalled by a newspaper advertisement placed by a man who complained of an incident where a 12-year-old girl was allegedly defiled by a police officer.
NPS Spokesman George Kinoti expressed that he was dismayed by the half-page advert placed by a Mr Ondicho Simba, who lamented that even after the incident the accused officer was still at large.
“I can assure you the officer will be in court in less than 24 hours once it’s established that the offence occurred. It’s a surprise we are receiving this information through the media,” he said.
Mr Kinoti further stated that the Police would have to ascertain the extent of frustration Mr Simba might have undergone hence resorting to publishing the complaint.
“It’s a very serious allegation in the first place. The investigation will also seek to establish if the member of the public was so frustrated to the extent of purchasing space in the newspaper. If the station was not taking action, we have the OCPD, regional commanders, IPOA and the Internal Affairs. Action will be taken. ” the NPS Spokesperson stated.
The advert placed on the Daily Nation on Friday, addressed to Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett read:
“I am a Kenyan citizen and wish to address you through the media regarding a 12 year old who was sexually defiled in Kisii County by a police officer based at Kisii Central Police Station on January 22.”
“On realising the incident, the Kenyan public pounced on the said officer and beat him ruthlessly and he was rescued by his colleagues. We reported the matter at the police station but the OCS and his deputy refused to allow statements to be recorded and have been protecting the officer.”
In October, 2015, a Nairobi Businessman published a full page letter to President Kenyatta, on a National newspaper, seeking his intervention after his business premises was allegedly raided by Administration Police officers costing him Sh20 Million worth of goods.
