Police have arrested a man who reportedly went to a police station and attempted to extort a CID boss while impersonating a Nation media Journalist.
Mr Derrick Davis Ogayo, who is said to have once been an intern at Parliament's Media Relations Department, allegedly identified himself as a senior reporter and editor at Nation Media Group.
Confirming the incident Langata Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Ms Fatuma Hadi stated, that when asked to prove his identity, Mr Ogayo produced staff ID card purported to have been issued by Nation Media Group and a business card.
“We are investigating a case of impersonation contrary to section 382 of the Penal Code,” the DCIO was quoted by Nairobi News
On the other hand, NMG confirmed that the suspect was not one of their employees and that the business cards were fake.
In January 2016, two men were arrested after they were caught impersonating Editors of Nation Media Group with an aim of extorting money from oblivious victims in Bungoma County.
Glen Kisiang'ani and Ken Onkota allegedly conned a businessman at Rise Up Society a total sum of Sh110,000 after conducting a 9-day operation from January 2.
The impersonators claimed they were editors following on a story, that was aired on NTV to expose the rot in the Company.
