KTN journalist Joy Doreen Biira was on Monday evening hit with the charge of abetting terrorism for allegedly circulating photos and videos of a military fight that broke out in Uganda's Kasese town.
The journalist was arrested on Sunday and spent close to 24 hours in police custody having flown into the country to attend her traditional wedding ceremony.
Doreen, alongside three others including her fiance Newton Kungu, were released on police bond and will be required to present themselves for continuation of the case on December 8.
The journalist's arrest sparked outrage and was the subject of online discussion for the better part of Monday with many calling for her immediate release.
Journalists and social media fraternity both in Kenya and Uganda protested the arrest terming it outright intimidation of the media.
Earlier in the day, the business reporter was taken through rigorous interrogation with police conducting a search on the house she had been residing.
Chaos erupted in Uganda when royal guards protecting King Charles Wesley Mumbere of the Rwenzururu kingdom attacked patrolling security forces leaving more than 60 people dead.
The journalist condemned the happening tweeting: "Continued gun shots in Kasese town Just metres away from @Omusinga's neighbourhood."
Police spokesperson Felix Kaweesi divulged that Doreen was arrested for going against orders that had been issued when the military fight broke out in the area.
