DP Ruto Says Waiguru Was Fired from Cabinet, She Did Not Resign

Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday made new revelations on the circumstances that led to the exit of former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru from the government.

In an interview on Citizen TV, Ruto stated that Waiguru was axed from her position after she was found to have allegedly had a hand in the theft at the National Youth Service (NYS).

“Waiguru was responsible for the programmes. When it was discovered that she had something to do with the mess and the theft at the NYS, she was axed,” Ruto stated.

He added, “We work with people and when we discover that they are not implementing the projects as they are supposed to, we remove them, we take action and prosecute them”.

The remarks by the DP forced the interviewer, Hussein Mohamed, to probe further on Waiguru’s exit since she explained that she had resigned due to health complications.

“One thing that hit my mind is that you said she (Waiguru) was axed, she was removed...but she said she left due to health issues?”

Ruto smiled at the question before responding, “that is your guess as much as mine”.

The DP explained further that Waiguru’s resignation was not unique, adding that is was similar to six other Cabinet Secretaries left the government after President Uhuru Kenyatta asked them to resign.

“She was not the only who left, six ministers left and you know the reasons why they left,” Ruto added.
