EXCLUSIVE: Joho Denies Claims That His KCSE Certificate Was Forged

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is now planning to have his former classmates and teachers come out and address claims that his KCSE results slip was forged as indicated by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Joho, through his spokesman Richard Chacha, strongly denied the claims that his KCSE results slip was forged noting that the allegations were a new move by the Jubilee administration to bring him down.

Mr Chacha disclosed that the Mombasa Governor sat his secondary school exams in 1993 and not in 1992 as the Government is claiming.

He added that Joho's former classmate and teachers were all over Mombasa to affirm that he had indeed schooled at Serani Secondary School.

"His classmates and teacher's are all over Mombasa.  They can confirm that these allegations are fake. This is just a desperate move by the Jubilee Government to bring him [Joho] down," Chacha disclosed.

Chacha also confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke that Joho's five accounts at CFC Stanbic Bank had already been frozen as directed by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

"They have frozen all the bank accounts. We will allow them to conduct the 10 days investigations and will not take any action as there is nothing to hide," the Governor's spokesman stated.

In a letter to the Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro, KNEC's acting Chief Executive, Ms Mercy Gathigia Karogo, highlighted that a copy of Joho's results slip submitted to the body for authentication was obtained from a forged document.

“Following your request for verification and confirmation of Joho Hassan Ali results slip as per the letter referenced CID/SEC/4/4/3 dated 25th January, 2017… Joho Hassan Ali did not register nor sat for the year 1992 KCSE examination at Serani Secondary School under index number 160092024," said Ms Karogo in her letter dated January 26, 2017.

According to KNEC, the centre code for Serani Secondary School in 1992 was 16032 and not 160092 as indicated in the copy of Joho's results.

The new revelations could be a threat to Joho's political career as he could face criminal liability.

If found guilty, the Mombasa Governor may have all his degrees invalidated and consequently locked out of the Mombasa gubernatorial race on the basis of Education qualification.

The law requires a governor to be a university graduate.

Joho, who has been in a prolonged fight with President Uhuru Kenyatta, has two degrees - a Bachelor of Commerce (Marketing) from Makerere University and Bachelor of Commerce (Human Resource management) from Gretsa University.
