18 Kiambu MCAs Running as Independent Candidates Denied Salaries

18 Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) who lost during Jubilee Party nominations have been dealt a major blow after they were locked out of the Assembly and their salaries discontinued.

This was after the Principal Legal Counsel sent an internal memo to Kiambu County Assembly Clerk John Mwivithi Mutie stating that the MCAs had breached Article 194(1)(i) of the Constitution and Section 14 (4) and ( 5 ) of the Political Parties Act.

The memo highlighted that the legislators were supposed to have resigned before presenting their names to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as independent candidates.

The County Clerk asked Kiambu County Assembly Speaker Gathii Irungu to bar the MCAs from plenary sessions and committee sittings.

Mr Mutie further stated that the 18 were not entitled to MCA perks anymore.

Among the candidates affected is Ngewa MCA and Kiambu Senatorial Aspirant Karungo Wa Thang'wa and Kiambu Assembly Majority Leader and Gatundu Parliamentary Aspirant Simon Komu.
