Renowned Business Tycoon Adnan Khashoggi Spent 25 Million Daily While in Kenya

Adnan Khashoggi a renowned tycoon and one-time world richest businessman surprised many after travelled to Kenya and would casually spend Sh25 Million daily.

Khashoggi, who owned lavish houses in Laikipia, would jet into the country in his commercial jets, including a Sh4 Billion DC-9 and throw wild parties.

In Laikipia, Khashoggi lived a high-end life. He owned big ranches that housed the current Fairmont Mt Kenya Safari Club and the Ol Pejeta Ranch. The ranch was, however, seized by the late Lonrho boss, Tiny Rowland, over a Sh400 Million loan squeezed from him in 1985.

Khashoggi's house was the talk of the town back then. It had its back doors opening to a view of Mt Kenya, four all en suite walk-in bedrooms, two lounges, baronial fireplaces, dining room, barbeque area and two private swimming pools.

The house is currently leased to Serena group of Hotels and goes for between Sh10,000 to Sh30,000 per night for Kenyans and Sh27,000 to Sh60,000 for non-residents.

Even though Khashoggi was filthy rich, he was a very generous man and even donated 300 acres of land from his Ol Pejeta Ranch to one of the managers.

Apart from these homes in Kenya, Khashoggi had dozens of other homes around the world including the largest estate in the Spanish playground of the world's richest, Marbella, where his home squatted on 5,000 acres.

Khashoggi was the Saudi sales agent for the likes of Chrysler, Fiat, Westland Helicopters and the Rolls Royce.

He often defended his wealth and lavish lifestyle, saying it was all part of doing business.

"My lifestyle was my only way of making important contracts, in a few years, everyone wanted to be on my guest list," he stated.

The tycoon's life, however, changed in 1985 when most of his property was seized by his creditors.

The Saudi Arabia-born tycoon died on Tuesday 6th June 2017 at a London hospital aged 82 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
