17-Year-Old Killed by Pokot Bandits Before President Uhuru Kenyatta's Visit in Baringo County

A Class seven boy was brutally killed in Baringo County a day before a scheduled visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the county.

Chelang’a Chebor was shot dead by suspected Pokot bandits on Saturday afternoon while he was herding his family cattle at Chepkesin.

The attack took place in Baringo North sub- county where the president addressed residents.

On Sunday morning he attended a church service at AIC Kabartonjo and in the afternoon he addressed residents at the town.

According to Kissumet sub- county Assistant Chief Joshua Kiptosok, the 17-year-old boy was in the accompany of five others when he was killed by the raiders.

"There was a fierce exchange of fire among the bandits, Police and Kenya Police Reservist before overpowering the (officers). They made away with over 50 head of cattle," he stated.

The stolen cattle were later recovered but the bandits disappeared towards Seretion in Tiaty Sub-county.

Rift Valley regional coordinator Wanyama Musiambo had previously assured that security had been restored in the county and blamed the runaway insecurity to the laxity of the Rift Valley Regional Administration.
