EACC Congratulates Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has commended Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko after he announced that the daily revenue collections of the county have increased from Sh7 Million up to Sh38 Million.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sonko stated that the rapid rise of the income was realised at the Nairobi County cash office during a joint operation.

"After spending several hours at the cash office instructing taxpayers to be paying directly to the bank in case there was a system failure we have managed to record 38 million shillings," he stated.

Replying to Sonko's tweet, the EACC lauded the governor for his good work urging other public officers to work hard to uphold integrity in their lines of duty.

"Bravo. Steer on with Good work, a public officer should endeavour to uphold integrity in his/her undertakings #EthicsCodesKE," the anti-graft body stated.

However, the EACC reply was not greeted well with some Kenyans led by blogger Robert Alai faulting the commission for commending Mr Sonko yet some of its officials were involved in the theft of county revenue in the previous county government.

Majority of the Kenyans, however, urged the governor to ensure that the revenue is put to good use, noting that collecting the tax is just the beginning of his work to restore Nairobi.

Some other individuals went ahead to applaud the former senator for working together with leaders from across the political divide given that Sonko was accompanied by the ODM minority leader during the operation.

Another Kenyan also noted that President Uhuru Kenyatta and National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga should emulate Sonko's act of working with both friends and foes to make Kenya better.
