Pastors Clash Over DP William Ruto Donation

A section of clergymen from the Pentecostal Assemblies of God (PAG) church have differed over a donation made by Deputy President William Ruto to their church.

Last month, Ruto donated Sh10 Million during a national pastors' convention at the PAG headquarters in Nyang'ori, Vihiga County, and some leaders claimed the donation was meant to induce PAG followers into supporting Jubilee Party.

Mr Patrick Lihanda, the General Superintendent of the Church dismissed those allegations saying the pledge was made by the government to aid them in several projects.

"We are apolitical and the donation was part of a pledge by the government to the church for development," stated Lihanda.

Kisumu Town PAG pastor Nathan Ondego over the weekend denied the existence of any projects and maintained that the donation was not given in good faith.

"As a Christian, I want to tell you the truth. There is no such project at the PAG headquarters. We only know of the building of the general superintendent's house, which has so far consumed close to Sh90 Million," revealed Pastor Ondego.

He further added that pastors were soliciting money from politicians and he expressed fear of being excommunicated from the church.

"We cannot sit and watch as pastors' names are used to solicit money from politicians. Our membership should not be used for selfish personal gains.

"You will soon hear that I have been thrown out of the church, but I will not allow PAG to be run like personal property," reiterated Ondego.

Other leaders in the church including Rev Tom Odego and Pastor Evans Nyamondi accused their colleague of planning to bring the church down and warned him that the Lord is greater than him.

"He has always wanted to bring this church down but he must know the Lord is greater than him," warned Rev Odego.

The church's Treasurer, Elisha Kimaiyo, refused to comment on the matter saying only the general superintendent was allowed to speak on behalf of the church.
