Jimmy Wanjigi's Lavish Nairobi Hotel Closed

Billionaire businessman Jimmy Wanjigi's Caramel Lounge and Restaurant in Westlands has remained closed on Tuesday.

This comes after Wanjigi's Muthaiga home was raided by officers from the Special Crimes Prevention Unit who broke in with tools including sledgehammers.

Law enforcement officers are in possession of a court order that allows them to search his home, Caramel Lounge and his company's Kwacha Group offices along General Mathenge Road.

According to the order, officers are looking for firearms, ammunition, and documents to facilitate investigations.

Wanjigi has been missing since the raids began on Monday with reports indicating he is in a strong room within the house.

Caramel Lounge was a common venue for National Super Alliance (NASA) Press briefings following the nullified August 8th election.

Wanjigi openly supported ex-Premier Raila Odinga's presidential bid and was a key financier for the NASA coalition.

He had recorded a statement with the police a few weeks ago alleging that his life was in danger and further claimed he had information from a State House insider that there was an imminent threat to his life.

Before he supported NASA, Wanjigi was one of the key figures who brokered a pact between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2013 elections.

They, however, fell out apparently due to disagreements on business dealings.
