New NTSA Programme All Drivers Need to Know About

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has unveiled a new curriculum which they hope will play a key role in curbing road carnage.

NTSA Director-General Francis Meja explained that the updated curriculum would equip drivers with the necessary education and skills to prioritize road safety in a dynamic environment.

“More than 90 percent of accidents result from human error

"The curriculum has been designed to address the different needs of drivers depending on the vehicles they use,” Meja stated.

The new educational programme is split into various modules that take on driver training and testing of motorcycles, light vehicles, Public Service Vehicles and Heavy Commercial Vehicles.

It also caters for drivers of agricultural machinery and professional drivers.

Meja explained that a particular focus would be placed on the training of Public Service Vehicle (PSV) drivers as they are responsible for many instances of reckless driving.

“It is, therefore, important that these drivers are highly skilled and experienced,” Meja stated.

The curriculum also contains practical and examination sections, as well as being backed by legislation that will see the formation of new agencies to oversee driver training and examinations.

“These bodies will be closely involved in future improvement and development of driving standards in Kenya in the years to come.

"I am grateful to the staff of the authority and all those who participated in the development and production of this curriculum,” Meja concluded.
