Kirinyaga Politician's Son Dies in Motorcycle Accident

Kirinyaga Politician James Muriithi, who is the Jubilee Party Vice Chairman in the County is in mourning after his lost his son in a motorcycle accident.

The Sunday accident that occurred at Kangaru along the Kagio-Sagana road claimed the life of his son Titus Kangara.

The accident that involved a motorbike and a saloon car also claimed the life of 24-year-old police officer, Peter Macharia Muiga and left his two cousins seriously injured.  

The four were riding on the motorcycle and heading to Sagana when a saloon vehicle coming in the opposite direction veered off its lane and rammed into them.

The driver of the car who was allegedly drunk fled from the scene of the accident together with two other occupants of the vehicle one of whom was a woman.

The young police officer died on the spot and the three other riders were rushed to Kagio Nursing Home, where Mr Kangara died while undergoing treatment.

The two survivors who are nursing serious injuries were transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital while the bodies of the deceased were moved to Kibugi Funeral Home. 

The police have since launched a manhunt for the occupants of the car and towed the wreckage to Sagana Police Station.

This accident comes just days after a similar accident involving a motorbike and a motor vehicle claimed the lives of five people.

The deceased who were all riding on the motorcycle died on the spot when they collided with the oncoming vehicle.

Traffic commandant Geoffrey Njogu who confirmed the accident at Sagalagala issued a stern warning to motorcycle operators who do not follow traffic rules.
