Kenyans Attack US Ambassador Robert Godec During Farewell Radio Interview

Outgoing US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec was on the receiving end of Kenyans' anger when he appeared for an interview on Radio Jambo on Thursday.

What was meant to be his farewell bid on the Gidi na Ghost show turned into a session where he faced backlash from angry callers on his role in Kenyan politics.

Many callers took Godec to task, stating that he was biased towards the Jubilee government during the 2017 election.

Another hot-button issue that Kenyans raised was his conspicuous silence when police were accused of killing innocent civilians.

One caller questioned: "Nauliza hivi, ni nai atalipa damu ya watu wetu waliokufa? (I'm asking who will pay for the ones who were killed in the chaos)."

In response, Amb Godec explained: "The United States was impartial in the elections. We stated our stand from the beginning that we did not have any preferred candidate."

Another caller could not hide his anger asking: "Kwani huyu mee bado yuko? Si akue deported (The Ambassador is still in the country? He should be deported)."

Earlier in March, Godec paid National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga a courtesy call at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi where they discussed matters relating to national reconciliation.

"The US has pledged to support us as a people as we proceed with the task of righting the wrongs that have ailed our nation for too long," Raila stated.

A number of users expressed regret following the recent actions of the NASA leader terming it a betrayal and a departure from his earlier promise to get supporters to 'Canaan'.

Later in the month, President Trump nominated Kyle McCarter to replace Ambassador Robert Godec.
