The government has on Friday announced plans to hire retired teachers and re-engage them afresh on a contract basis.
The move by the Ministry of Education is meant to address the on-going teacher's crisis in Wajir county.
On hiring, the retired teachers caused by a mass exodus of non-local teachers following the killing of three of their colleagues in Wajir by suspected al Shabaab militants.

Following the incident, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) decided to withdraw all non-local teaching staff who formed part of the bulk of teachers in the region.
This created an acute shortage of teachers in the region which saw residents and local leaders take to the streets protesting the move by the teacher's employer.
The non-local teachers however camped at the TSC headquarters for weeks remaining adamant that they would only resume their duties if the government deploys them to safer areas.
Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amina Mohammed will be visiting the County on Saturday to assess the situation.
Although most parts of the country are considered secure, the security situation in some parts of the country remains unpredictable with three students and a driver killed on Friday in a bandit ambush in Kapedo area, Baringo County.
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has been undergoing turmoil with calls for the Secretary-General Wilson Sossion to resign.

During a presser on Thursday however, Sossion indicated that he will remain put at the Union asking those who may have been aggrieved to forgive him in the spirit of national reconciliation.
