Francis Atwoli Claims His Life is in Danger For 'Making President Uhuru Prime Minister' Comments

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Saturday revealed that his life was in imminent danger over his comments regarding making President Uhuru Kenyatta Prime Minister in 2022.

Addressing a press briefing in Kisumu, Atwoli stated that he had received threats on his life over comments he made during the Labour day celebrations calling for an inclusive government.

"During labour day, I said we need an all-inclusive constitution so that everyone is a winner. If we have about six slots including positions of eminent persons as advisors to government. After Uhuru's term, why shouldn't he occupy one of them to represent Central Kenya," he stated.

This he explained would ensure equity and equality for all regions and communities in terms of leadership.

"You can disagree with me, it is a debate and it doesn't mean you eliminate me. You can put it in the referendum and if it is defeated well and good.

"If they think they are real hitmen, they will be met with more force than what they have," he threatened.

He added that he had notified government agencies of the threats and had taken appropriate action against the assailants.

"I have made an appeal to those plotting for my elimination to go ahead knowing that the government eye is beaming on them as well as my private security

"To try to eliminate me is a waste of time because I have had a full life and I thank God for that...I'm not afraid of anything," Atwoli stated.

Speaking during the Labour Day celebrations at Uhuru Park on Tuesday, Atwoli noted that Uhuru was still young and should not retire at the end of his current second and final presidential term.

"Let us amend this Constitution and adopt the Bomas draft to fight exclusion, realising that not all of us can be president. This will allow us to accommodate President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is very young. Otherwise, where are we going to take him?” asked Atwoli.
