President Uhuru Kenyatta Only Needs Raila's Support - Francis Atwoli Declares at Labour Day Celebrations

Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli on Tuesday advised President Uhuru Kenyatta that he doesn't need Deputy President William Ruto or any other person once he aligned himself with Raila Odinga.

Speaking during the Labour day celebrations at Uhuru Park, Atwoli stated that Odinga commanded a huge following in the country and the president should not pay attention to nay-sayers in pursuing the unity deal.

"Raila is in his own league and when I tell people, they don't believe me. Wherever he goes, he is one of the terrible organizers we have in this country. The president should heed my advice.

"Let his aides tell him, that when you are with Raila Odinga, you do not need any support in Kenya because he has suicidal supporters from Nyanza and across the country,"Atwoli stated.

He expressed optimism with the new partnership between the opposition leader and President Kenyatta.

"Today I am a happy man that (Uhuru meeting Raila to bring peace) has come to pass and that is where we are today.

"When I started to say the two should dialogue people said I was mad. Now there is peace in the country. Our economy is on upwards trend," he added.

On his part, Raila announced the end of the economic boycott stating that it's putting off was one of the agreements in his new deal with Uhuru.

"Today I announce the end of the economic boycott by the resistance movement. Hii tulifanya ili kuunganisha wakenya. Tunajua shida zinazokumba taifa letu. Tunataka kufanya jambo ambalo litaleta suluhisho la kudumu (This we are doing to unite all Kenyans. We know what problems are in our society and we want to take action to resolve these issues)" he stated.

He added that after President Uhuru and himself had taken the oaths, they commenced on their journey to healing the country after a prolonged electioneering period.
