Kiambu Water CEC John Mugwe Fired Over Facebook Addiction

Kiambu Governor Ferdinard Waititu fired the county's Water CEC John Mugwe on grounds that he failed to discharge his roles as required and was addicted to Facebook.

Mugwe had been suspended in April with the governor alleging that he was addicted to Facebook and he was not keen on delivering on his responsibilities.

His termination letter read in part: "You are also not a good team player hence affecting the overall performance of your responsibilities and that of the county government as a whole."

The letter added: "Therefore, within the powers set out in Section 31(a) of the County Government Act, 2012, I hereby relieve you of your responsibilities as a CEC and from any other portfolio which you may be holding."

The governor stated that he took the action after it emerged that the CEC was bragging on social media to attract admiration instead of executing his mandate to serve the people of Kiambu.

Waititu was quoted stating: "If your work is taking pictures and posting them on Facebook and WhatsApp, then we shall not allow that."

He further asked the County executive committee member official to hand over all county assets in his possession and prepare a handover report to be submitted to the county's secretary.

In November last year, Mugwe was transferred from the Roads docket to the Water Department in Kiambu County.

Mugwe waived his ambitions for Kiambu governor after a consultative meeting with the Jubilee Party leadership and paved way for governor Waititu.

His suspension came in the wake of the resignation of Agriculture CEC Jeremiah Nyori following an alleged 'frustration by senior county government officials'.
