Kitaeleweka Hit-Maker Kimani wa Turacco Speaks Out

Deputy President William Ruto 2022 presidential bid may have suffered a huge blow after a controversial song by Kimani wa Turacco urged Mt Kenya region not to support anyone simply because the supported President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The song dubbed ‘Tuturi thiri wa Mundu (Hatuna deni ya mtu, kitaeleweka) urges voters from central Kenya not to endorse Ruto simply because he backed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“We owe no one no debt, the only debt I know is Mshwari. Acha sasa kieleweke, (let's understand this),” the artist sings.

The lyrics of the song further suggest that the political debt was paid after the 2017 General election.

“We went hunting together and when we slaughtered the debt, we shared equally,” he noted.

The musician has come out to indicate that he has no regrets about composing the song.

Speaking directly to Kenyans.co.ke, the musician indicated that the song was directed not to a specific person but to the politicians who are not performing their duties.

“The song was not directed to Ruto like many media outlets are making it look,” Kimani wa Turacco mentioned.

He further revealed that he only recorded the audio of the song but bloggers took it up and inserted the photos.

“If you take a keen look at the video you will realize that it doesn’t have my photo. I only did the studio version and individuals with their own motives tweaked the video,” he intimated.

The artist also noted that there were no hints of hate speech in his song.

The song was released days after the Kikuyu council of elders asked Ruto to retire together with Uhuru when his term ends in 2022.

However, on Sunday, Ruto dismissed the allegations that Kikuyu’s owe him any debt maintaining that he didn't support President Uhuru Kenyatta expecting anything in return.

“No person, No community, no section of Kenya owes anybody, including myself anything. We owe ourselves the debt of love to one another because the Bible says so,” the DP spoke at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi on Sunday.

The track has put forward a major political dilemma in the Mt Kenya region whether to reciprocate Ruto’s support for Uhuru in 2013 and 2017 or to back another presidential aspirant.
