100 Kenyan School Girls Go Missing

Over 110 girls from Silanga Secondary School in Ol'Kalou, Nyandarua County are reportedly missing in unclear circumstances.

Reports indicate that the school principal Peter Macharia revealed that the girls went missing in the wee hours of Tuesday morning.

The school has a total population of over 300 students but the missing group was sleeping in a common dormitory.

Notably, the students were drawn from all classes right from form 1 through form 4 with the principal suspecting that they ran away from school to avoid sitting for the end of term examinations.

However, their disappearance has sparked controversy given that the parents to some of the students have told the media that their daughters are yet to arrive at home over 12 hours after the girls left the school.

The incident comes amidst increasing concern over cases of student unrest in the country including the burning down of school facilities.

A similar incident occurred in late June when six form four girls from New Nyaga Secondary School in Gatanga, Murang'a vanished from their homes.

The girls left their homes in school uniform but did not report back home, neither did they show up at school on the material day.

Three of them were later traced to Kiganjo Estate in Thika town where that had been locked up in a house having allegedly runaway to seek employment while their friends had already been employed as househelps.
