The government is set to sponsor a group of 46 gospel and cultural musicians on a European tour beginning Tuesday.
The trip, meant to showcase Kenya’s gospel and culture for about 10 days, has been budgeted for Ksh23 million.
The artists under the Cultural and Gospel Music of Kenya (CGMK) banner include popular musician Eko Dydda, Gloria Muliro, Anastacia Mukabwa, Kayamba Africa, Pastor Timothy Muthui and Janet Otieno.
According to a schedule for the trip, the group will tour France, Switzerland, Sweden and Germany where they will stage town hall and open-air concerts.

The group’s leader Pastor Kituyi disclosed that the Christian group which has been in existence for two years, is versatile and will stage folk dances and music from various communities.
While flagging off the team at the ministry’s headquarters, Principal Secretary of Culture and Heritage Josephat Mukobe commended the team for seeking to rekindle Christianity in Europe and reawaken its interest in Kenya.
“We want the world to know that beyond athletics, Kenya has a diverse cultural heritage such as our music, food, crafts, languages and belief systems,” she added.
The PS pointed out that Europe has been witnessing a dwindling number of worshippers, forcing churches to be converted into social halls despite religion spreading to Africa from Europe.
She, however, cautioned the team to observe decorum, noting that any anti-social conduct by would be wrongly taken as a Kenyan behaviour.
