Homa Bay County Government Seeks Involvement in Burial of Sharon Otieno's Baby

The burial of the unborn baby belonging to slain Rongo University student Sharon Otieno that had been scheduled for Thursday, September 13, 2018, did not take place.

The family had planned to give the baby an early send-off but the Homa Bay County government sought to have the ceremony postponed to a day later.

According to eDaily, the county government asked the family to halt the plans to a day later so as to incorporate them in organizing the burial.

Sharon's mother, Melida Auma, told journalists that the county government approached them and requested it to be allowed more time to help in organizing the baby’s burial.

The 7-month-old foetus will be laid to rest tomorrow (Friday 14 September) at the grandparent's home in Magare Village, Homa Bay County.

The body will be moved from Kirindo Hospital mortuary in Suba Sub-County ahead of the burial that has been rescheduled for Friday mid-morning.

“It has been hard for us. Very hard indeed. We have gone through a lot since Sharon disappeared. We want this matter put to rest. We want peace but this will be possible only after her killers are exposed and charged,” Sharon's mother, Ms Melida Auma told journalists on Wednesday.

The family's lawyer Peter Kaluma had maintained that Sharon's body would only be buried after her killers are sent to jail.

On Wednesday, Migori Governor Okoth Obado who's been surrounded by the investigations on the abduction and subsequent murder of Sharon condoled with the diseased's family.

Obado, in a press conference flanked by his wife Hellen Obado, his son Jerry and daughter Eve, stated that he had absolutely nothing to do with the murder of the student.
